UGOBE is finally releasing a few teasers, video's of Pleo in action and some hindsight about Pleo's 4 year adventure right at the edge of technology!
At the moment, 3 clips have surfaced on Pleoworld. Click on the pictures to play the clips:
Pleo and UGOBE's three laws of robotics is presented by UGOBE's co-founders Caleb Chung and Bob Christopher. There's a rare sighting of the very first 2003 4-legged proof of concept robot. It also explains UGOBE's vision of robotics: how autonomous robots must behave as living beings, convey emotions, be aware of their environment and adapt. Don't miss the skin-less demo of Pleo! Caleb's tour of UGOBE Labs is a walk-through discovery of the place where Pleo is being designed. In the pure Californian tradition, the place looks barely like an expanded garden shed. It clearly shows hard the constraints are to produce such a sophisticated creation at an affordable price and the proximity of all those involved in Pleo's birth.
John Sosoka and the science of collaboration is a reflection by UGOBE's CTO about the unique blend of skills necessary to create a life-like robot: not only electronics and motors but 3D animators and AI specialists.
To be continued soon!
If you are impatient, have a look at Digibeings' Pleo gallery page You can also view Pleo's very first public appearance at Demo 2006 NB: That Pleo was an early prototype. Since then it has been fitted with more sensors, quieter motors and faster processors.
There's a striking resemblance between Pleo's design process and the birth of the Macintosh in the early '80: a small design team putting previously unaffordable technologies in an affordable product. Get a taste of that challenge here .
